2014

Taturana is founded, with the vision and practice aimed at the democratization of access to Brazilian cinema, audience development, and dissemination of campaigns in line with urgent social issues.

2019

Taturana becomes a non-profit institute, with the objective of enhancing its operation, expanding and consolidating its structure based on diversity principles, and strengthening South-South actions in the field of cinema and social impact.

2020 - 2022

For two years, it strengthened the relationship built with collaborators since its foundation and held meetings to consider the purposes and priorities.

2022

It held a general meeting of refoundation for the incorporation of new members and the constitution of the first expanded and collegiate board.

WHO MAKES TATURANA

Co-founder of Taturana. She has a master’s degree in Anthropology (Freie University), a degree in business administration (USP) and international relations (PUCSP) and post graduated in African history (UCAM).  She is a certified facilitator, with extensive experience in strategic planning facilitation with Brazilian civil society organizations. She works as a facilitator, researcher and trainer in the field of narratives and film distribution with a focus on social impact.

Carol Misorelli

Co-founder of Taturana. PhD student in Postcolonialisms and Global Citizenship at the Center for Social Studies (CES-UC), in co-supervision with Núcleo Diversitas (USP). Master degree in Anthropology and, since 2018, she has been researching the intersections between Latin American youth, the audiovisual sector and policies of visibility. She also works with training in cinema and social impact and performs editorial activities – research, translation, writing and editing – within organizations and social movements, magazines and publishers.

Livia Almendary

Filmmaker, restless and curious. He has been involved for more than twenty years in dozens of films in the most diverse technical functions, and has directed award-winning shorts and TV series. He has produced films and plays, created video installations, directed progressive political campaigns. He was the director of ABD-SP and nowadays he fights for the cinema of the interior. In documentaries, he has found space to create and produce, and in Taturana, the inspiration to create impact campaigns and rethink distribution in our continent.

Rodrigo Díaz Díaz

Degree in journalism from the Federal University of Recôncavo da Bahia. She has written for newspapers and news websites, such as the Jornal A Tarde, Portal Catarinas and Hypeness. She has been working in the area of culture and social impact since 2016 as a planner, press officer, in social media and as a copywriter. She has worked  for the Marielle Franco Institute, Movimento Mulheres Negras Decidem, Diaspora Conecta and Sou Roadie. At Taturana, she is a communication assistant.

Adriane Primo

She was raised in the north of the city of Manaus, in Amazonas, and is an executive producer of cinema, audiovisual and new media, as well as a screenwriter. She also works as manager of cultural and social projects. She has a bachelor's degree in Radio, TV and Internet from UNINORTE, with a specialization in Cultural Management: culture, development and market, from SENAC-SP. She has a degree in Creative Writing with an emphasis on cinematographic scripts from the Fundação das Artes de São Caetano do Sul.

Sarah Pimentel

Mestre em Cinema Documentário pela Fundación Universidad del Cine de Buenos Aires, Argentina. Atua na interseção da educação, do cinema e do impacto social, realizando oficinas para usuários de organizações e fundações sociais e também realizando vídeos documentários e institucionais para parceiros ligados a causas no Brasil e na Espanha.

Juliana Brombim

Mestre em Educação pela Universidade de São Paulo, tendo desenvolvido trabalho sobre pedagogias culturais de raça e gênero. Atua no terceiro setor desde 2012, com passagens pelo Instituto Paulo Freire, pelo Instituto Ayrton Senna e pelo Fundo Brasil de Direitos Humanos, em projetos relacionados à formação continuada e à defesa de direitos de populações atingidas por grandes empreendimentos.

Consultancy and training company whose main mission is to contribute to the strengthening and institutional development of non-profit organizations and social businesses, by means of the structuring of an administrative and financial management with a political and strategic bias.

Akoben

Business owner, producer, and co-founder of Portátil and Dialab. He has a degree in business administration and is completing his master's degree in ethnic and African studies (UFBA). He was an executive producer of the series “O Enigma da Energia Escura” presented by the rapper Emicida, for GNT and Globoplay. He is a co-producer of the documentary “O Navio e o Mar” [The Ship and the Sea] and awarded with funding from the Sundance Institute (2021, USA) and William Greaves (2020, USA). He is currently completing the series “Retrato Íntimo” and the feature film “Em Comum.”

Emerson Dindo

Director of sustainability of RD – Raia Drogasil, with responsibility for the agendas of sustainability and social investment. She has 20 years of experience working with sustainability and private social investment. She has worked at C&A, the Instituto Ethos and Natura. In these organizations, she was involved in the creation and implementation of the sustainability strategies of the business, management of the supply chain compliance and the development of research and international standards of sustainability.

Giuliana Ortega 

Analyst of public policies and government management at the city hall of São Paulo and a professor at Insper. He has a PhD in public administration and politics from the University at Albany. He has worked at the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Health and Petrobras and has also researched the work of civil society organizations, with a focus on their interactions with governments. He is a director of the Brazilian Society of Public Administration and has written publications for national and international academic journals.

Marcelo Marchesini 

Executive director at Coração da Selva. He worked at Spcine for five years, where he developed and implemented pioneering policies in diversity and inclusion in the audiovisual sector. He is a founder of MAB - women and gender dissidence of the audiovisual sector in Brazil. He is currently on the board of APTA (Association of Trans Audiovisual Professionals). He has been working with the creative economy for 16 years and is studying for a master's degree in the economics program at UFRGS, with an emphasis on the creative economy.

João Andrade

Journalist, specialized in gender and local development and with a master’s degree in communication and culture from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. She has been working for over 20 years in the areas of digital technology, communication, human rights and social justice. She was one of the founders and directors of the Nupef Institute, which is a research and advocacy organization in digital rights and internet governance. Since 2021, she has been the leader for the Latin American region of IRIS (International Resource for Impact and Storytelling).

Graciela Selaimen

Political scientist, marathon runner, cultural producer and project coordinator at the Instituto de Referência Negra Peregum. He has a master’s degree and PhD in political science from PUC-SP and USP, respectively. He is a specialist in public policy with a focus on public security from the University of Zurich (Switzerland). In 2016/2017, he was part of the general coordination of the "Carnaval de Rua" and "Virada Cultural" for the Municipal Secretary of Culture of São Paulo.

Marcio Black

Degree in social communication from PUC-SP and director of the radio station Educadora FM of IRDEB. Since 2003, he has been working in the audiovisual sector with public policies such as the Promotion and Television Broadcasting Program of the Brazilian Documentary. He worked in the coordination of the department of co-productions and public policies of TV Cultura and in the coordination of the audiovisual promotion of the municipal department of culture of São Paulo. He was also involved in the implementation and direction of the Empresa de Cinema e Audiovisual da Cidade de São Paulo - Spcine.

Renato Nery

Performer, educator and cultural producer. Her creations transit between the scenic and visual arts, seeking crossovers between art/life, body/city and art/activism. She has been working in the São Paulo cultural scene for over 20 years. She has researched walking as an aesthetic and political practice, performative theater and urban intervention; ; in addition to topics related to the right to the city, female incarceration, human rights, gender, sexuality and lesbianism. At Taturana, she worked as a producer on the Taturana Film Festival (2019, 2021) and on the launch and social impact campaigns of some films (2018-2022).

Beatriz Cruz

She is a screenwriter and documentary filmmaker, and a master's student in Visual Anthropology. She develops, writes and directs projects for TV and cinema. She has worked for channels such as National Geographic, HBO, Discovery Channel, GNT, NHK, Globo, Al Jazeera, RTP, TV Cultura, TV Brasil. Her second feature film, The Last Summer, was selected for the Script Station Berlinale 2023 and IDM Film Fund's RACCONTI #11. She was a script mentor for Cabíria Festival and IndieLab at IndieLisboa Festival. Mother and amateur percussionist.

Fernanda Polacow 

Teacher of gastronomy, journalist and cultural producer. He is a specialist in gastronomy, history and culture and was the co-author and coordinator of the book Prato Firmeza: Guia Gastronômico das Quebradas de SP, winner of the 2021 Jabuti Prize. He is currently a lecturer at Senac and an associate of Taturana in impact distribution, having worked on projects such as Espero Tua (Re)volta, Cine São Paulo, América Armada and on the Taturana Film Festivals.

Guilherme de Sousa

Executive producer and partner of Paideia Filmes. Produced the launch of Democracia em Vertigem, by Petra Costa. Executive producer of the documentaries Platamama, Eleições and Meu Corpo é Politico, by Alice Riff, and the films Guigo Offline and the short film Marina não vai à praia. His films have been shown at festivals such as Dok Leipzig, Visions du Réel, Bafici, Havana, and the Festival do Rio, with licensing to TV channels and streaming platforms, such as MUBI and Amazon. Teaches cinema and audiovisual sector at ESPM, has a degree in cinema from UFF (2012) and in economics from Unesp (2004), with a master's degree in cinema and television from ECA/USP.

Heverton Lima

Filmmaker, screenwriter and author known for films such as “Radical: a controversa saga de Dadá Figueiredo” and “Superstonic Sound”. Born in Rio de Janeiro, in 1978, he has a postgraduate degree in documentary cinema from the Barcelona Film School. His films have been shown at some of the main festivals in the world and have also been screened in more than 70 countries. His award-winning feature film "Ilegal: a vida não espera" from 2014, was decisive in starting the debate about the medical use of marijuana in Brazil. In 2023, Rapha returned to the theme with "O Outro Mundo de Sofia" produced by Kromaki and GNT.

Raphael Erichsen

Degree in cinema from the Federal University of Pelotas-RS and a master’s degree in screenwriting from the Escuela Internacional de Cine y TV - EICTV, in Cuba. Member of APAN and his works and collaborations have won awards and participations in festivals such as Janela Internacional de Recife, the Buenos Aires Documentary Festival and the Rotterdam Festival. His current collaborations are in the short film "Solastalgia" by Violeta Mora, as a screenwriter, with a premiere at the Visions du Réel in 2022. He was the editor of "Manhã de Domingo" by Bruno Ribeiro, which was awarded the Silver Bear in Berlin 2022.

HISTORY

We are a non-profit organization that, since 2014, has believed in the power of cinema to to build networks, promote dialogue and strengthen social bonds. Films communicate, denounce, tell other stories, stimulate the imagination and foster debates. 

We have organized impact distribution campaigns for more than 60 films; instigated thousands of free screenings via the Taturana Platform; built screening networks; conceived film festivals; and co-founded the Latin American Forum of Cinema and Social Impact. And we continue to expand the field of cinema and social impact in Brazil
